MacBook Pro Fan (part two) and update on me
A couple of weeks ago I took my MBP into the Apple store for them to take a look at the left side fan. They held the unit over the weekend, under the guise of doing a complete 24 hour testing. I called and emailed on Monday, and was notified by them via email that I could pick up the unit. When I arrived, it turns out they had not run the diagnostic testing, they had popped open the case, put a new fan in, then closed it, then booted it once, all within 15 minutes of my arrival. How do I know this? by using a fancy command in terminal called ' last ' This wonderful command shows the last logins, reboots and shutdowns. Comes in handy in cases like this. So, I questioned how dependable of a repair it would be if they had not done any testing. The Genii did not know of the ' last ' command for sure, he had to go get the technician who did the repair. The technician I talked with admitted that they don't do testing like that if they know what the problem is, and in this case, a fan replacement can be done in less than 16 minutes. I was aghast of course to learn that the Genii and Senior Asst Manager who I spoke with the week before would even tell people that they do testing and diagnoses before doing repairs, when in fact they do not....hmmmm...I wont let it get to me, it could be worse.....I think. So far the unit does in fact fine.
Its has been a busy couple of weeks for sure. With my work coming to a close at my current place, and the travelling I had done, and all of the items on the "Honey - do" list being checked off, (family still in Europe until mid August) I have kept pretty busy. A friend came up last weekend and helped put in some flooring with me for one of my daughters rooms, and a attic fan (it does get hot in the OC ! ) I am planning on going to DEFCON again this year, so I am looking for a place to stay that is reasonably priced and not a scary place to sleep in.
Today is the day I rearrange the home office (happens every three months). Organizing all of the equipment, books, paperwork, etc can be a chore to say the least. I need like another 11x11 room ...hmmm something to think about I guess.
